Lone Star Festival
The Event for Texas Creatives

I was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and moved to Texas with my parents and two older brothers when I was about two-years old. Our family grew, and in the end, I had five brothers! It was a blast to have two older brothers and three younger ones. Our home was never dull.

Discovering the excitement of storytelling

I had several teachers that had would have our class makeup group stories. None of us students knew how the story was going to turn out with all the twists and turns swirling from our imaginations. It was a great technique to inspire creative writing.

The stage

It wasn’t until I discovered the stage in 4th grade, which I knew I wanted to learn every form of storytelling: acting, singing, and the power of words.

Life

I graduated from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia with a BS degree in education. I married my husband John, who was at that time a diplomat, and we moved to the Philippines. My first class was at the American International School in Manila, Philippines. I enjoyed teaching for many years, and no matter what grade I taught there was always story-time. My husband and I returned to the states where he studied law and became a lawyer. I taught school and our family grew to five. Reading and story time were a part of the bedtime routine. Eventually, the kiddos would become quite the storytellers themselves. Today we have three beautiful, successful young adults.

Fast forward to the present

My husband and I live overseas for his work though we return home twice a year. Living abroad has given me the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. My travels only add to my blessing of having the opportunity to also travel in my own country. I have three states left, and then I can say I have spent time in all 50 states.

Humanitarian

I have had the good fortune to work with incredible individuals and organizations doing humanitarian work in various countries. Once again storytelling of one form or another plays a role.

Writer

I finally decided it was time to put my words on paper. The rest is history with more stories to follow.
